What is UMKC Dining Services?
UMKC Dining Services is a partnership between the University of Missouri - Kansas City and Sodexo, our contracted food service company. UMKC Dining Services exists to provide comprehensive dining services to the UMKC community.
Where/How do I use my Meal Swipes?
You will be able to visit one of the six concept options and receive a meal with entrée, two (2) sides, and beverage for your meal swipe.

- If you return to any one of the six concept options within one hour of your first swipe, you will be offered the second helping of entrée and two (2) sides.
- If more than (1) one-hour elapses before you return, a second swipe will be taken from your plan.
What are Flex Dollars?
Flex dollars are a declining balance loaded onto your Roo Card that can be spent at all UMKC Dining Service locations.
I will be living in a residence hall. Am I required to purchase a meal plan?
Yes, students living in Johnson Residence Hall or Oak Street Residence Halls are required to purchase one of the three residential meal plans.
If I use all of my meals for the week, how can I purchase more? What happens to the meals that I do not use in a week?
You cannot increase your number of meals per week by purchasing more meals but you can use your Flex Dollars, a Debit Card, or Roo Bucks to purchase a meal at a "door rate" price. (CASH IS NOT ACCEPTED AT THE LOCATION)

Weekly meals reset every Monday morning and unused meals do not carry over to the following week for weekly meal plans.

Meals that are not used are lost on a weekly basis and will not roll over to the next week.
May I use my meals to purchase food/beverages from retail locations around campus?
You can use one meal swipe per day to purchase a Simply-To-Go Lunch Pack at the Smart Market Convenience Store located in Oak Street Resident Hall.
You can use one meal swipe per week to purchase a Chick-Fil-A Combo Meal
- Two Combo Meals to Choose From
- Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Medium Fries, 20oz Fountain Drink
- 8-count Nuggets, Medium Fries, 20oz Fountain Drink
- Chick- Fil-A Meal Swipes combo options cannot be substitutes
- Chick-Fil-A Meal Swipes Patrons cannot chose Deluxe or Premium item & pay difference
- Second Helping does not apply to CFA Meal Swipes
If I use all of my flex dollars for the semester how can i purchase more?
Additional flex dollars cannot be purchased separately but a student can add Roo Bucks, https://info.umkc.edu/one-card/roo-bucks/, to their Roo card for additional purchasing options
What happens to unspent flex dollars at the end of the semester?
Residential Plans - Unused flex dollars from the fall semester will roll- over to the spring semester if a meal plan is purchased for the spring semester. All remaining flex dollars at the end of the spring semester will be forfeited.
Commuter Plans - All remaining flex dollars at the end of each semester will be forfeited.
May I change my meal plan after I selected?
- A student staying in campus housing can change their meal plan until the end of the first week of each semester (Friday by 5:00 PM). They must contact Residential Life, housing@umkc.edu, to request a plan change.
- Commuter students purchasing a meal plan cannot change their plan after it is purchased.
Can I cancel my meal plan and receive a refund?
- If a residential student cancels their housing contract, a pro-rated refund may be available.
- If a commuter student, faculty or staff cancel a meal plan, no refunds are issued and unused meals cannot be transferred to another person.
How do I know what ingredients are begin used in the food?
You will find Local item identifiers through out the Dining Hall. Nutritional and allergen information about food being served can be found at each station. Please ask a Dining Services staff member for assistance if you cannot find a particular menu item or if you need more detailed information.
How/Where do I find out how many meals or flex I have remaining?
Students, faculty, and staff can use the Get Funds app or website, https://info.umkc.edu/one-card/get-funds/, to view their plan balances. They can also contact the Roo Card Office (816-235-6657) or ask any UMKC Dining Service venue cashier.
A Flex balance is also printed at the bottom of your receipt.
